The Department of Business and Communication at the University of South Carolina Beaufort is accepting applications for a Professor of Communication Studies and program coordinator position to begin Fall 2024.
The ideal candidate will serve as Program Coordinator; collaborate with program faculty to promote, revise, expand, and assess the Communication Studies program curriculum.
Teach a variety of undergraduate communication courses, including writing across media platforms, research methods, mass communication, internship courses, and capstone plus other general education communication courses as needed.
Opportunities to offer special topics and summer courses are also available. Mode of instruction is primarily in-person, but experience in teaching online and hybrid formats is desirable.
Engage in original scholarly research or creative scholarship leading to peer-reviewed presentations and publications. Mentor and involve students in research and applied projects.
Contribute to shared governance by serving on program, departmental, and university committees and participate in other related professional service activities. Engage in academic advising.
A letter of interest summarizing the applicant’s qualifications and suitability for the position.

The Communication Studies program at the University of South Carolina Beaufort introduces students to communication as a field of study by presenting, examining and applying various concepts, theories and methods of analysis, research and scholarship associated with all areas of the discipline. With experiential learning at its heart, the Communication Studies program cultivates an environment of learning and discovery, grounded in effective and ethical communication practices, that emphasize the production and theory-based analysis of media. The program’s curriculum promotes the communication scholar’s inquiry into, appreciation and application of all areas of effective communication and media. The program prepares graduates both for professional careers in communication as well as graduate study.
A small, public university in a coastal setting that enrolls approximately 2,000 students, the University of South Carolina Beaufort is a dynamic and vibrant academic community serving the South Carolina Lowcountry and beyond. USCB’s main campus is located in Bluffton, South Carolina.
Required Education and Experience
Ph. D. in Mass Communication, Media Studies, Communication Studies, or Journalism. Demonstrated commitment to undergraduate teaching, including students from underserved and diverse cultural backgrounds.
Record of publication and service commensurate with rank.
Preferred Qualifications
Prior experience seeking and securing external funding to support innovative new projects and programmatic development will be beneficial in this position.
Experience with program development and assessment highly desired.
