The USC School of Cinematic Arts (SCA) seeks a chair for the John C. Hench Division of Animation and Digital Arts. This position is responsible for driving the vision of the animation division and overseeing its management on a daily basis. It requires partnering with other deans and chairs of the School as well as faculty, staff and students to support, build and evolve a strong animation program that is current and robust. Additional partners include other USC deans and chairs, domestic and international institutions, studios and companies.
SCA nurtures future generations of filmmakers and emphasizes cross-disciplinary professional practice. The successful candidate must have a thorough understanding of animation production, business practices and artistic talent requirements in feature/TV animation, interactive media and games, real-time animation, mixed reality, virtual production, visual effects, motion graphics, and themed entertainment. The School seeks an individual who is equally adept at strategic thinking and creative problem solving in large scale environments as well as small startups. They must have solid working experience collaborating and interacting with film/content makers, studio executives/management, artists, technologists and production teams.
As faculty, the chair also allocates part of their time to teaching. The ideal candidate would have teaching experience at a university level, be well-versed in curriculum development and keeps abreast of trends in this dynamic field.
This search is for a full professor with tenure.
Successful candidate must have an extensive professional work profile and be actively engaged in the animation community.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Education:
Undergraduate degree
Minimum Experience:
Ten years working in executive/managerial positions related to animation production
Preferred Education:
Graduate degree or equivalent training in relevant field
Preferred Experience:
Teaching experience
The core salary range for this position is $130,000 - $175,000 per year. This is a 9-month tenured full-time position.
