Position Description:

The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the Medical College of Wisconsin is inviting applications for a full-time clinical informatics faculty position at a rank that is commensurate with experience to serve as the Director of Pathology Informatics.

Position Summary:
We are seeking a highly motivated individual who will lead the data science and applied analytics within the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine and begin to build a data science team within the department. The successful candidate will collaborate with clinical colleagues and basic science in Pathology as well as with the broader informatics community at Froedtert and the Medical College of Wisconsin to help enhance the utilization of data analytics and artificial intelligence to improve population health and wellness and to optimize quality and efficiency in laboratory testing and services.  There will also be opportunity for the successful candidate to collaborate with the new formed Medical College of Wisconsin data science initiative.  Academic rank and salary will be commensurate with experience.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

      • Facilitate and direct the development of software/middleware solutions for operations and commercialization of laboratory services
      • Implement data-driven laboratory medicine and laboratory stewardship
      • Support enterprise initiatives which enhance clinical effectiveness
      • Facilitate modern digital pathology platform to support the clinical practice of the Medical College of Wisconsin
      • Assist in optimization of EPIC Beaker LIS to support clinical operations and extraction of data
      • Collaborate with the Chief Medical Information Officers within the MCW clinical affiliates (Children’s Wisconsin, Wisconsin Diagnostic Laboratories, and Froedtert Health) to develop and execute enterprise priorities
      • Support integration of genomic test information into the EPIC medical record
      • Participate in pathology trainee and medical student education
      • Facilitate informatics curriculum into pathology training
      • Collaborate with Chief Research Informatics Officer on data strategy and architecture initiatives in support of system-wide operational and research programs
      • Develop reciprocal data-sharing infrastructure to support clinical and basic science research
      • Design and oversee cutting-edge research focused on precision medicine

Position Requirements:

Education and Expectations:
Candidates must possess an M.D. or M.D./Ph.D. degrees.  Board certification or eligibility by the American of Pathology (CP, AP or AP/CP) is required. The candidate should additionally be either Board-certified or Board-eligible in Clinical Informatics, having completed a fellowship or advanced training in Pathology Informatics. The ideal candidate will have a record of
academic publication in a domain related to biomedical informatics, machine learning, or applied data science. Prior experience in the successful implementation of informatics solutions toward quality improvement in laboratory medicine, as well as familiarity with common data models and data warehouse infrastructure, are highly desirable. The applicant should have excellent interpersonal skills, enthusiasm for teaching, and a collaborative attitude. Development of an independent research program is highly encouraged and supported by the department.  In support of this position, the department is committed to providing the support staff that will be necessary for the successful candidate.
