All students have opportunities to participate in cutting-edge biomedical research in three current areas of focus – integrative physiology, neurobiology, and reproductive biology. Additional information about research focus areas, educational programs, and service and outreach can be found at https://vetmedbiosci.colostate.edu/bms/ .
The Animal Reproduction and Biotechnology Laboratory (ARBL) is recognized as a Program of Research and Scholarly Excellence (PRSE) at Colorado State University (CSU). This internationally recognized program has an administrative home in the Department of Biomedical Sciences, but also includes faculty members from other departments in the CVMBS and the College of Agricultural Sciences. A team approach is used to identify impactful issues in reproductive physiology and biotechnology and develop innovative approaches to conducting groundbreaking research. The ARBL fosters advancement in reproductive health for animals and humans through integrative research and training, and champions the CVMBS values of accountability, collaboration, respect, innovation, and transparency. The mission is to excel through discovery, translation, and dissemination of knowledge in reproductive sciences and biotechnologies at local, national, and international levels.

The ARBL provides facilities for large animal (bison, camels, cattle, goats, horses, llamas, pigs, and sheep) and small animal (mice, rats, rabbits, birds, ferrets, and reptiles) research on the CSU Foothills Campus. Current collaborative research at ARBL includes programs in: Sperm, Egg and Embryo Development (SEED), Healthy Baby/Healthy Mother (late embryo, implantation, placentation, fetal development and pregnancy outcomes), Reproductive Neurosciences, Infectious Disease and Translational Reproductive Biotechnologies. Graduate student funding opportunities are supported at the ARBL through competitive research grants, USDA-NIFA National Needs Fellowships, several endowed scholarships, donations, and clinical income. Opportunities for collaboration exist with faculty in multiple basic science and engineering departments across campus including those associated with the CSU Veterinary Teaching Hospital and the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus.
