The Polytechnic School (TPS) of the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering at Arizona State University (ASU) seeks applicants for multiple open-rank faculty positions in engineering education. Appointments will be at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor rank commensurate with the candidate’s experience and accomplishments, beginning August 2024. Although the tenure home may be in any of the Fulton Schools, the Polytechnic School is currently the most involved in the interest of this research.

TPS, one of eight Fulton Schools, rests on its own 600-acre scenic desert arboretum campus in Mesa, Arizona. This Polytechnic campus draws undergraduate and graduate students worldwide, offering students an innovative, project-based approach to higher education. Small class sizes and strong connections to industry and community partners enable unique hands-on opportunities, emphasizing learning through prototyping and solving real-world challenges through collaboration.

TPS has a vibrant and growing engineering education research community , comprised of collaborative, committed, and risk-taking faculty. We intentionally seek to hire faculty who will contribute to our academic programs, promote transdisciplinary teaching and research, and help the university achieve its aspirations, including enabling student success, transforming society, valuing entrepreneurship, and conducting community-embedded research. Particular topics of interest include, but are not limited to, K-12 education, graduate education, workforce development, sustainability, ethics of care, artificial intelligence, organizational change, convergence, and/or other engineering education-related topics of national and global significance. In efforts to advance Engineering Education Systems and Design (EESD) programmatic vision forward, we encourage applications from those: (1) pursuing transformative and/or emerging research agendas; utilizing cutting-edge research methodologies; and/or disruptive in their approaches toward the attainment of inclusive excellence within engineering; and (2) navigating engineering with minoritized social identities in recognition that diverse voices, knowledge, and experiences are critical to the success of societal and technological innovation.

The successful applicant for this position will be able to teach courses at both the undergraduate and doctoral levels within the TPS undergraduate engineering and Engineering Education Systems and Design (EESD) PhD program s, respectively. Success in this position will require the adoption of effective pedagogical practices in the development and delivery of undergraduate and graduate courses; advisement of both undergraduate and graduate student research and projects; development of an internationally recognized and externally funded research program; and, the undertaking of service activities within the institution and their scholarly/professional communities. EESD faculty are also expected to contribute positively to an institutional culture that prioritizes equity, collegiality, transparency, and supportiveness for all faculty, students, and staff.

This search is part of ASU’s engagement with Arizona’s New Economy Initiative (NEI) , a bold effort to ensure Arizona leads the emerging economy that will rely on engineering, computing, and technology to drive sustainable growth, resilience, and opportunities for all. NEI investments in the Fulton Schools of Engineering will grow our world-class faculty to accelerate research outcomes and broaden student access to our programs; support Science and Technology Centers to foster the growth of new economy industries; and expand experiential learning and workforce training opportunities.
