Description

The Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering (IAFSE) at Arizona State University (ASU) and the Del E. Webb School of Construction (DEWSC) within the School of Sustainable Engineering and the Built Environment (SSEBE) seek applicants for a tenured or tenure track faculty position in the field of Construction Management or Construction Engineering.  Appointments will be made at the rank of assistant, associate, or full professor, commensurate with the candidate’s experience and accomplishments. Successful applicants should have a research and scholarly focus that include, but are not limited to, innovations in technologies and construction methods, robotics, data analytics & modeling, construction workforce/labor, safety and risk, and resilient & sustainable infrastructure construction for extreme environments. The individual will complement or align with the skills and portfolio of existing construction management and engineering faculty.

 

Job responsibilities include developing and maintaining a scholarly externally funded research program, advising and mentoring graduate students, and delivering in-class and/or online instruction at the undergraduate and graduate level in construction management and engineering.  Other responsibilities include supervising undergraduate design and research projects, participating in course and program assessment, and working with student organizations and competition teams. 

 

Appointment at associate or full professor level will require a candidate to have considerable experience in Construction Management or Construction Engineering education, a demonstrated commitment to scholarship and research, and an ability to maintain and expand the Del E. Webb School of Construction’s research capabilities.  In addition to building strong collaborations with existing faculty within DEWSC, the candidate will be expected to build strong collaborations with other groups in SSEBE as well as entities within IAFSE and across ASU.

 

Successful candidates will support the mission of the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering and are expected to participate in interdisciplinary research and teaching endeavors both within and beyond the Fulton Schools. Although the tenure home may be in any of the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering, the School of Sustainable Engineering and the Built Environment (SSEBE) is currently the most involved in the interest areas of the search. The School offers undergraduate and graduate degree programs in Civil, Environmental, Sustainable, and Construction Engineering, and in Construction Management and Technology.  SSEBE has 60 faculty members, 1450 undergraduate and 800 graduate students, and generates annual research expenditures of $24 million per year.

 

This search is part of ASU’s engagement with the Arizona’s New Economy Initiative (NEI), a bold effort to ensure that Arizona leads the new economy that will rely on engineering, computing, and technology to drive sustainable growth, resilience, and opportunities for all. NEI investments in the Fulton Schools of Engineering will grow our world class faculty to accelerate research outcomes and to broaden student access to our programs; will establish Science and Technology Centers to foster the growth of new economy industries; and will expand experiential learning and workforce training opportunities.


Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in construction management, construction/civil engineering, or a related discipline
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrated evidence of research capability and commitment to teaching excellence as appropriate to the candidate’s rank
  • Demonstrated evidence of ability to procure sponsored research and generate scholarly articles in the interest areas of the search, as appropriate to the candidate’s rank

Preferred Qualifications for all applicants:

  • Professional engineering (PE) license, CPC, PMP, LEED or other professional certification, or the ability to obtain such certification
  • Five years of construction industry field management experience.
  • Prior undergraduate teaching experience in a construction management or engineering program.

Preferred Qualifications for associate and full professor candidates:

  • Demonstrated record of publishing high quality scholarly articles.
  • Demonstrated record of securing external funding for research programs.
  • Familiarity with ACCE and/or ABET accreditation processes.
  • Demonstrated record of excellence in teaching that incorporates active learning.
