What You Will Do

The successful applicant will serve as a professional radio technician for system engineering and performance of the mission critical EDACS/ P25 trunked radio system, land mobile radio (LMR), cellular service, and in-house paging systems at the Los Alamos National Laboratory.  Employee will provide Tier I, II, III and coordinates Tier IV technical support for all fixed and mobile radio/network equipment including radio frequency (RF) components, trunking controllers, dispatch consoles and network devices.  Employee will be expected to operate with minimal supervision or oversight to evaluate RF systems, ensure compliance and implement enhancements to improve overall performance of a wide variety of analog, digital, conventional and trunked radio systems and sub-systems.

This position will be filled at either the Network Professional 1 or 2 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate.  Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.

Network Professional 1 ($65,200 - $103,500)

The successful candidate will be required to perform the following duties:

  • Maintain EDACS and P-25 trunked radio system, paging, cellular, and other LMR systems

  • Monitor system alarms and alerts 24x7

  • Conduct, coordinate, and/or assist radio and paging maintenance

  • Optimize radio network system performance

  • Maintain radio systems, system components, radio configurations and accurate records

Network Professional 2 ($71,000 - $115,700)

In addition to the duties outlined above, the Network Professional 2 will be required to:

  • Monitor and analyze performance metrics

  • Prepare technical reports and develop monitoring metrics

  • Develop subscriber radio templates and perform field programming

  • Manage the implementation of P-25/EDACS conversions for various local institutions

  • Engineer RF amplification solutions for buildings and geographical isolated locations

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:


Network Professional 1:

  • Experience with installation, maintenance, and operation of complex digital trunked radio communication systems supporting mission critical operations.

  • Experience with point-to-point microwave systems.

  • Solid understanding and hands-on experience with RF instrumentation and tools.

  • Experience with technical writing, procedure documentation and system drawings.

Additional Job Requirements for Network Professional 2:

In addition to the Job Requirements outlined above, qualification at the Network Professional 2 level requires:

  • Experience with networking and IT technology – certification preferred.

  • Experience with frequency management, coverage and capacity planning.

  • Demonstrated experience reviewing technical plans and generating comments.

  • Demonstrated RF project management of trunked radio implementations.

  • Experience performing field interference detection, identification and analysis.

Desired Skills:

  • Experience with in-building wireless Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS)

  • FCC general Radio Operators License (GROL) or equivalent.


  • Network Professional 1 typically requires a minimum of two years related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Network Professional 2 typically requires a bachelor's degree and a minimum of four years' related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
