What You Will Do

 

The Special Program Office (SPO) within ALDX, is looking for a Professional Staff Assistant to provide administrative and programmatic support.  Day to day operations will be under the direction of the Laboratory Coordinator (program manager) and the Program Administrator.  The ALD chief of staff will have overall supervisory responsibility.

 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:


  • Serve as the classified document and controlled-access vault custodian

  • Manage inventory, electronic and paper-based, ensuring strict compliance with established procedures

  • Interact extensively with DoE, DOD and other national laboratories.

  • Exercise the highest level of confidentiality and discretion related to almost all aspects of the job.

  • Working in a vault with only one or two other employees, as your permanent workstation

  • Frequently interact with laboratory executive leadership as well as high level U.S. and foreign departmental contacts.

  • Ability and willingness to follow processes and procedures to the letter.  But also have the ability to exercise independent judgement and make decisions in the absence of the Laboratory Coordinator and Program Administrator.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:


  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and follow-through to completion on multiple tasks, under strict deadlines and changing priorities.

  • Experience working in a classified environment and handling secret documents and media daily

  • Experience working in a vault

  • Skill and experience anticipating security issues and proactively mitigating them where the consequence of error is extremely high

  • Excellent customer service skills

  • Excellent communication skills interacting with all levels of internal and external personnel

  • Demonstrated ability to actively manage a complex calendar with changing priorities.

  • Demonstrated experience in researching and resolving problems both independently and as a team member.

Desired Skills:


  • Experience interacting with dignitaries, high-level managers at NNSA, DOD, Foreign Agencies and DoE weapon laboratories and sites.

  • Ability to work in multiple computing environments (Windows, Mac, and Linux)

  • Experience with LANL’s domestic and foreign travel systems.

  • Experience with LANL’s visitor procedures

  • An Active Q clearance

Education: Position typically requires a bachelor’s degree and a minimum of five years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

*Eligibility requirements:  To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
