Professional Specialist in the Afghanistan Policy Lab - Internal Applicants Only

The School of Public and International Affairs at Princeton University invites outstanding researchers to apply for appointments as a Professional Specialist.  The SPIA Afghanistan Policy Lab aims to help build an inclusive, peaceful, and prosperous Afghanistan that represents all its citizens equally. The School dedicates itself to integrating world-class scholarship and a commitment to service in order to make a positive difference in the world.

The School is looking for a Director to oversee the operations of the Afghan Policy Lab (APL).  This is a one year term position with the possibility of reappointment for up to three years.

Responsibilities:
*Present work to the SPIA community, Princeton University, media, and policy circles both in DC and internationally.
*Conduct project/policy research on Afghanistan, including analyzing data, conducting interviews, and synthesizing information from a variety of sources.
*Participate in class discussions/visitors.
*Write opinion pieces/media appearances.
*Organize and participate in a virtual weekly seminar for various constituents on and off campus.
*Participate in public panels in Washington DC
*Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant policy issues and trends related to Afghanistan and the region, especially on gender issues and civic space in the region.
*Organize and form the thematic debates by arranging high level panels, roundtables, and seminars on Afghanistan.
*Help in the preparation and presenting APL's policy recommendations on Afghanistan to key stakeholders.
*Responsible for guiding the APL fellows in their thematic research and work.
*Write grant and foundation proposals for the APL.

Essential Qualifications:
*Senior executive with 10 - 15 years' experience in government, international development, regional cooperation, and stability operations.
*Excellent research and writing skills.
*Extensive knowledge regarding socioeconomic and political conditions in Afghanistan
*Knowledge of standard internet tools and HTML
*Familiarity with standard political science, economics and/or sociology data sources and analyses. 
*The successful candidate must be well-organized, attentive to detail, and able to respond to deadlines in a timely manner.  

Education required:
Master's degree required in political science, international development, law and diplomacy, economics, or international relations.
