JOB SUMMARY

The Barbara Davis Center (BDC) for Diabetes is a multi-disciplinary diabetes center affiliated with the University of Colorado, School of Medicine. The BDC is one of the largest diabetes institutions in the world, devoted to finding prevention, a cure and the most effective treatment of diabetes and associated disorders.

This position is full-time (40 hours per week) as a Professional Research Assistant (PRA) at the BDC and involves working on research studies impacting our Hispanic youth with type 1 diabetes. Relevant projects include the BDC’s Latino Program and the Young Adult Racial Disparities in Type 1 Diabetes (YARDD) study. The PRA is responsible for the coordination of these research studies and managing data analysis efforts.

The Barbara Davis Center for Childhood Diabetes (BDC) is the largest diabetes institute in the world specializing in type 1 diabetes research and care for children and adults. Over 200 clinicians, clinical researchers, basic biomedical scientists and supporting staff work at the BDC to find the most effective treatment, prevention, and cure for type 1 diabetes. The Center provides state-of-the-art diabetes care to over 7,000 children and adults with diabetes as well as inpatient care at the Children’s Hospital Colorado. The dedicated Children’s Diabetes Foundation has generously supported the BDC mission, since 1977.

This position reports to the Principal Investigator (Andrea Gerard Gonzalez, MD).

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

This is a position requiring enthusiasm for clinical and behavioral research and knowledge or interest in diabetes. The candidate will be self-directed, detail-oriented, and adaptable. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are also required. Duties and responsibilities include:

  • Coordinate research studies, while overseeing strict compliance with research regulations
  • Organize, maintain and prepare research materials for patient care visits
  • Develop and maintain Institutional Review Board (IRB) applications and documentation
  • Data entry, organization and management of research files
  • Conduct study participants phone calls
  • Facilitate study related travel and visits
  • Contribute to research publications including literature searches and development of abstracts
  • Participate in study meetings and trainings as required
  • Presenting study results at meetings
  • Recruitment and scheduling studies
  • Able to develop good rapport with children and adults
  • Ability to comply with all institutional policies and regulations
  • Ability to assist patients with troubleshooting and data collection for telemedicine appointments as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

SALARY & BENEFITS

Salary starts at $38,000 and is and is based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in life sciences or research related field
  • Spanish language proficiency: demonstrates fluent speaking and some writing

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior work experience in human research and/or clinical setting preferred
  • Study participant interviewing experience highly desirable
  • Experience with IRB and other regulatory documents and procedures a plus
  • Experience working with physicians and nurses is desirable
