Nature of Work and Profession Field

Seeking a full-time, Professional Research Assistant (PRA) at a Level 1 or Level 2 to join a research laboratory within the Department of Craniofacial Biology, School of Dental Medicine. The successful candidate will contribute to projects exploring the molecular and cellular mechanisms involved in pulmonary vascular remodeling and the response of the lung vasculature to hypoxia and other injuries, utilizing an array of complementary approaches including studying of chromatin structure and gene expression.

The PRA will perform cell culture, RNA isolation, RT-qPCR, western blot, cloning, analysis of histone modification and chromatin structure, and expression and/or activities of transcription factors. Other duties will be as assigned including preparing common solutions and stocks, placing laboratory orders and contributing to laboratory compliance.

The PRA should be highly motivated and able to work independently, but cooperatively, within a research laboratory environment. The position requires exceptional organizational skills, record-keeping abilities and attention to detail. The PRA should be able to clearly and effectively communicate with the research team and is expected to fully participate in laboratory meetings and journal clubs.

 

Salary and Benefits

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

PRA Level 1: The salary range (or hiring range ) is $38,000-$45,000                                                                                                                                     PRA Level 2: The salary range (or hiring range ) is $45,500-$55,000

The salary ranges represent the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

 PRA Level 1: Minimum Requirements

  • BS/BA in biology related field.
  • Minimum of 1 year experience working in a research laboratory setting.
  • Experience with molecular biology techniques such as qRT-PCR and mammalian cell culture are required

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

PRA Level 1: Preferred Requirements

  • Experience with chromatin structure, epigenetics and molecular cloning.
  • Two or more years of laboratory experience.

PRA Level 2: Minimum Requirements

  • BS/BA in biology related field.
  • Minimum of 3 year experience working in a research laboratory setting.
  • Minimum of 1 year experience working with mammalian cell culture is required.
  • Experience with molecular biology techniques such as qRT-PCR is required.

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

PRA Level 2: Preferred Requirements

  • Extensive experience with molecular cloning, chromatin structure analysis such as chromatin immunoprecipitation.
  • Four or more years of laboratory experience.

Compentencies:

  • Good understanding and experimental skills in Molecular Biology.
  • Be able to design and troubleshoot new experiments.
  • Ability to work on several projects, with several different team members, simultaneously
  • Be able to analyze and present data in a publishable manner.
