The Linda Crnic Institute for Down Syndrome has an opening for a full-time Professional Research Assistant position.

Job Summary:
The Linda Crnic Institute for Down Syndrome (www.crnicinstitute.org) is the largest academic home for Down syndrome research. The Crnic Institute collaborates with prominent scientists and leaders around the globe to enable precision medicine approaches to improve health outcomes in Down syndrome. The Crnic Institute is seeking a detail oriented, highly motivated, and enthusiastic full-time Professional Research Assistant (PRA) to work as a member of our Human Trisome Project team (www.trisome.org). The qualified candidate will process biospecimens for storage and downstream analysis, maintain detailed records and sample tracking, and assist with various experiments according to project needs.
Examples of work performed include:
- Process peripheral blood samples into various fractions including plasma, white blood cells and red blood cells.
- Manage specimen tracking and biobanking.
- Perform RNA, DNA, and protein extraction and quality control.
- Process samples for fluorescence-activated cell sorting (FACS) and other immunological assays
- Perform tissue culture.
- Perform ex vivo phenotypic and functional analyses of primary human and mouse leukocytes by flow cytometry.
- Perform various molecular biology assays including ATAC-seq, RNA-seq, DNA-seq, Sanger sequencing, PCR, qPCR, and western blotting.
- Assist with various laboratory support operations, such as autoclaving, inventories, ordering supplies, stocking, etc.
- Other related duties as assigned.
Salary and Benefits:
The salary range (or hiring range) has been established at $38,000-45,000
The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry or related sciences.
- One year of laboratory experience with emphasis in molecular biology techniques.
Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry or related sciences.
- Two or more years of laboratory experience with emphasis in molecular biology techniques.
- Experience with specimen processing and management.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Working knowledge of molecular biology techniques for protein, RNA and DNA.
- Experience with genomic, gene-expression and proteomic platforms.
- Ability to develop new techniques and methods through literature searches.
- Strong qualitative analysis skills
- Hard working and self-motivated.
- Highly organized with demonstrated project planning and management skills.
- Ability to work both independently and as an effective team member.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.
- Strong attention to detail, balanced with ability to maintain a broad perspective.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.
- Strong computer skills, including Word, Excel, etc.
