Nature of Work:

The Department of Pediatrics, Section of Neonatology has an opening for a full-time Professional Research Assistant. This position will work on a project investigating the role of platelet activation in the pathogenesis of pulmonary vascular disease in the setting of acute lung injury. Senior PRA rank will be considered for candidates who meet the Senior PRA qualifications which include a Master's Degree. Responsibilities for this position include performing experiments using cell culture, ELISA, Western blot, immunohistochemistry, molecular biology, flow cytometry, protein work, biochemical assays, small rodent work and microscopic analysis. The position includes the maintenance of an accurate database, participate in data analysis, project management with record keeping, organization of protocols. In addition, the position will require supervision of trainees (students).

The ideal candidate will be reliable, personable, highly motivated, and have demonstrated the ability to work independently when appropriate. This is an excellent opportunity to join a fast paced, productive research group. This position is located in the Research Complex 2 on the Anschutz Medical Campus.

Examples of Work Performed:

  • General lab maintenance; ordering, cleaning, organization of data (10%)
  • Biochemical assays; cell culture, ELISA, Western blot, immunohistochemistry, molecular biology, flow cytometry, protein work, biochemical assays, and microscopic analysis (80%)
  • Maintaining mouse colonies; 10%

Salary and Benefits:

The hiring rate (or budgeted rate) for this position has been established at $37,000.

The above salary rate represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the rate at the time of posting.

Qualifications

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • BS/BA in biology or related field by time of starting the job

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire

 

 

Conditions of Employment:

Must successfully pass a 10-panel drug test through Children's Hospital Colorado.

Must be willing and able to pass a national criminal and sex-offender background check

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior research experience in a platelet biology laboratory and/or lung biology research
  • Rodent handling experience
  • Experience with flow cytometry.
  • 3+ years of biomedical experience

 

Competencies:

  • Science research background
  • Basic computer and mathematics skills; Proficient user of Microsoft office and Prism
  • Able to follow written and verbal instructions
  • Strong organizational skills
