Overall Description of Responsibility or Nature of Work:

The Fujita lab in the Department of Dermatology at the University of Colorado, School of Medicine, seeks a (half-time to) full-time Professional Research Assistant. The position is funded by a new NIH R01 grant and available immediately. The main emphasis of this position is to help lab members studying the role of IL-37 (a unique cytokine inhibiting innate and adaptive immunity) in autoimmune diseases and tumor immunology . The Fujita lab also studies genotoxic insults in the skin and tumor inflammation in melanoma. We seek a highly motivated individual with a bachelor’s degree in molecular biology, cellular biology, biochemistry, pharmacology, immunology, or related discipline. A strong understanding of immunology is a plus. Dr. Fujita’s lab is supported by NIH (NCI) R01, NIH (NIAID) R01, NIH (NIAAA) R21, VA Merit Award, and foundation grants.

Duties and Responsibilities:

This technician will have the following responsibilities, including but not limited to the following:

  • culture of mammalian cells;
  • basic molecular biology techniques such as DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, RT-PCR, plasmid preparation, transfection, and western blotting;
  • immunological techniques such as immunofluorescent staining, ELISA and flow cytometry;
  • animal work including oral gavage and/or intraperitoneal injection; and regular lab maintenance.

Salary and Benefits:

 The hiring salary for this position has been established at $37,500 - 52,000 (based on the salary grid for a full-time Level 2 PRA)

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

Qualifications

 

Qualifications:  

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in molecular biology, cellular biology, biochemistry, pharmacology, immunology or related discipline, or a closely related field
  • Minimum of 2 years of lab experience
  • Prior successful working experience using a wide range of biology, pharmacology and/or immunology techniques
  • Experience in working with small animal models

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference will be given to individuals with more than 2 years of experience in a research laboratory setting. Preference will be given to candidates experienced in one or more of the following:

  • Working with small animal models
  • Experience using a wide range of biology, pharmacology and/or immunology techniques

Desired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Able to work independently and efficiently, as well as in a team setting
  • Strong and reliable organizational skills
  • Strong work ethic and excellent team communication skills
  • Able to keep detailed documentation and meet deadlines for experiments and literature research
  • Basic computer software skills and the ability to learn new software programs
