Job Summary:

As an important member of our research team, the Professional Research Assistant will support the laboratory of Dr. Uday Kompella.  Your research will involve drug discovery, delivery, and development for treating diseases of the eye, lungs, and the brain, with a key focus on the eye.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Primary culture of cells for evaluating drug efficacy, mechanisms of action, and safety.
  • Conduct of drug efficacy, safety, and delivery studies in rodent and rabbit eyes, using techniques including laser- or chemical- induced CNV, ERG, OCT, histology, and immunohistochemistry
  • Data collection, analysis, and report generation.
  • Assistance with day-to-day research activities
  • Meeting with the Principal Investigator for the purpose of progress updates and mentoring. 

Work Location:

Onsite - this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, CO.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:  

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.  

  • Bachelor’s degree in veterinary sciences, biochemistry, biology, pharmaceutical sciences or a closely related field. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with primary cell cultures and related biochemical and molecular studies.
  • Handling of rats and mice for ocular efficacy and safety studies
  • Handling of rabbits for ocular efficacy and safety studies
  • Experience with techniques including animal model development and characterization for eye diseases.
  • Experience with common laboratory techniques for pathological and biochemical analysis of tissues
  • Laboratory research experience
  • Experience with database management

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.
  • Outstanding customer service and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills, ability to problem-solve, multi-task, and work independently.

  • Ability to interpret and comprehend complex research protocol information.
  • Excellent computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office products.
  • Knowledge of animal and human anatomy, physiology, medical terminology.

    The starting salary range (or hiring range ) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE:

    $44,203 - $59,409 

    The above salary range (or hiring range ) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation unless it is non-exempt.
