Nature of Work
The Colorado School of Public Health (ColoradoSPH) has an opening for a full-time Professional Research Assistant. The ColoradoSPH strives to promote diversity and equity and to be a model of inclusive excellence. We are committed to enhancing diversity among our faculty and strongly encourages individuals from underrepresented groups to apply.
The Professional Research Assistant will join the Carlton Research Group and the Colorado COVID-19 Modeling Group. The Carlton Research Group is a multi-disciplinary team working to understand how social and environmental conditions, from climate change to urbanization, impact the spread of infectious diseases, and to provide data-driven analyses to improve infectious disease surveillance and control programs. The Colorado COVID-19 modeling group works closely with state and local government to model the course of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic and inform policy-making. This is an opportunity to be part of a fast-paced, multidisciplinary team including biostatisticians, epidemiologists, mathematicians, infectious disease modelers and economists and to collaborate with state and local health officials to inform COVID-19 response in Colorado and the Rocky Mountain West.
The primary focus of this position will be assisting with efforts to develop data visualizations, reports and presentations about SARS-CoV-2 for the Rocky Mountain West. The Professional Research Assistant will contribute to critical literature reviews to inform modeling efforts, data visualizations, written reports and engagement with stakeholders. The Professional Research Assistant will be part of a team of scientists working to refine mathematical modeling tools for estimating the potential future course of SARS-CoV-2, accounting for regional variability in policy, vaccine uptake and behavior. The team places a strong emphasis on innovative, collaborative research and the communication of analyses to stakeholders.
The Colorado School of Public Health is a collaborative endeavor involving the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus (CU Anschutz), Colorado State University (CSU), and the University of Northern Colorado (UNC). The Colorado School of Public Health is the first and only accredited school of public health in the Rocky Mountain Region, attracting top tier faculty and students from across the country, and providing vital contributions towards ensuring our region’s health and wellbeing. Collaboratively formed in 2008 by CU Denver, CSU and UNC, the Colorado School of Public Health provides training, innovative research and community service to actively address public health issues including chronic disease, access to healthcare, environmental threats, emerging infectious diseases, and costly injuries.
The University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus is the only comprehensive academic health sciences center in Colorado, the largest academic health center in the Rocky Mountain region and one of the newest education, research and patient care facilities in the world. Currently home to 25,000 employees, more than 5,000 degree-seeking students and two nationally recognized hospitals that handle 1.7 million patient visits each year, CU Anschutz trains the health sciences workforce of the future, carries out a broad range of research, and cares for the state’s children, adults, and veterans. CU Anschutz features schools of medicine, pharmacy, dental medicine and public health, a college of nursing and a graduate school.
