Position Summary

  • Pursues research goals established by the Principal Investigator.  Responsible to the Principal Investigator for all aspects of planning, developing, operating, recording, and reporting of assigned research projects. Participates actively in designing, developing, and executing a wide variety of laboratory procedures under the supervision of the head of the laboratory.  Performs experimental investigations with considerable independence on a day-to-day basis.
  • Has or acquires the skills needed to accomplish research goals, including, but not limited to, extensive techniques in immunology (flow cytometry, cell cultures, lymphocyte isolation and adoptive transfers, etc.), molecular biology (RNA analysis and manipulation, RNA and reagent design, DNA cloning, quantitative RT-PCR, etc.), biochemistry (western blotting, phospho-protein analysis, purification and characterization of DNA, RNA, proteins or other biomolecules, and mouse handling.      
  • Performs routine and non-routine tests leading to the successful accomplishment of experimental goals, including trouble-shooting of laboratory protocols and overcoming experimental problems.
  • Collaborates with and teaches other researchers to accomplish major research goals.
  • Accurately collects and records experimental data and analyses data independently or in conjunction with other research staff.

Performs all other duties as assigned.

 

Salary and Benefits:

The salary range (or hiring range) has been established at $35,600 - $42,500

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Qualifications

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in biology, biochemistry, or related field.
  • One year or more hands-on experience in a research or analytical laboratory setting.

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ideal candidate will have 1 year or more experience with laboratory procedures and techniques relevant for working in a research lab focused on study of immune responses to infectious agents, such as flow cytometry, ELISA, immunohistochemistry, molecular biology, and/or biochemical methods.
     
  • Knowledge of and experience with aseptic techniques to maintain sterility and culture cells.
  • Ability to enter and organize data into spreadsheets and databases; Experience keeping electronic logs and managing inventory.
  • Experience handling rodents and maintaining breeding stocks of animals with complex genotypes.
  • Experience in an animal research facility.
