The Center for Policy and Democracy (CPD) in the School of Public Affairs at the University of Colorado Denver is seeking applicants for a Professional Research Assistant (PRA) position to serve as the Center’s senior research coordinator. The PRA will support the CPD co-directors in coordinating and managing active research projects and the development of new research grants. The PRA will also support and help train graduate and undergraduate students funded through CPD’s research grants in writing, data analysis, and research dissemination. The PRA will also assist in coordinating CPD events, outreach, and engagement with visiting scholars.

Working across disciplines, states, and countries, we bring various perspectives to study and inform how policies and politics impact the most important issues facing democratic societies today. Professional Research Assistant


What you will do:

This is a full-time position that will provide research support and project management for CPD.  The person will be responsible for the following duties:

·        Providing research project management support, by coordinating with research team members, and helping train graduate and undergraduate students in the research process.

·        Participate in data collection, data management, and analysis of CPD research projects.

·        Sustain and disseminate project work through journal publications, book chapters, reports, and grant writing.  

·        Serve as a liaison between the CPD directors and research teams on active and proposed grants.

·        Organize public events and seminars hosted by CPD to engage with other scholars and students at CU Denver and the broader community.

·        Oversee outreach and research dissemination for CPD activities through social media, news letters, and listservs.

·        Maintain a database of CPD grants and projects and track grant budgets in coordination with CPD co-directors and staff at the School of Public Affairs.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range (or hiring range ) for this position has been established at $37,000 - $57,000.  

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The above salary range (or hiring range ) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.

Qualifications

 


Qualifications you already possess (Minimum Qualifications)

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in the social sciences
  • 3+years as a research assistant
  • Experience successfully completing at least one research project, as evidenced by publications.
  • Data collection and analysis skills are necessary (both qualitative and quantitative)
  • Demonstration of writing skills including literature reviews and summaries of data analysis are required. 

Preferred Qualification to possess (Preferred Qualifications)
  • Master’s Level Degree in the social sciences
  • Experience using statistical software such as R and/or qualitative analysis software such as Atlas.ti.
  • Experience writing academic publications and/or reports for professional audiences.
  • Knowledge of/experience with theories and methods for studying public policy and/or democracy
  • Experience conducting independent and team-based social science research is essential. Ideal skills include data management, data collection, literature reviews, scheduling, coordination, and experience with publishing academic articles. 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong communication, organizational skills, and social science research skills are essential. This person is expected to work in a team based environment as well as independently to complete projects by deadline.
