Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
Campus Health (CH) is a multi-specialty ambulatory college health clinic providing quality, and affordable health care for eligible students and spouses. Annually, CH has more than 80,000 patient encounters, which includes Primary Care and Women’s Health as well as specialty clinics in sports medicine, orthopedics, gynecology, physical therapy, counseling and psychological services, travel clinic and allergy clinic. Weekend acute care is provided from 8-5 PM. On site ancillary services include pharmacy, OTC pharmacy, Student Stores pharmacy, medical laboratory, and radiology.
Campus Health has been continuously accredited since 1986 by the Joint Commission of Accreditation of Health Care Organizations. All personnel are trained in the concepts and principles of Performance Improvement and serve as team members and leaders in shaping and defining the organization as it strives to provide quality and safe care.
Campus Health collaborates with Student Wellness and Campus Recreation and other Student Affairs partners to provide education and outreach to assist in keeping the campus population healthy.
Education and research comprise another important function of CH. CH provides clinical rotations and practicums for students in the School of Education, Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Social Work and Public Health, Department of Medical Technology, Physical Therapy, Occupational Health and Radiology. In addition, CH serves as a research site for a number of faculty and graduate student grants and contracts, where CH staff participates with the principal investigators across a variety of medical specialties.
Position Summary
This position is eligible for a Sign On Bonus of $2,500 to be paid in two installment:
 - $ 1,250 within 30 days of your hire date and
 - $ 1,250 12 months after hire date

The Professional Nurse in the Same Day Care Allergy Clinic setting within the Department of Nursing Service is responsible for organizing and providing direct patient care for those patients served by Campus Health; applying clinical expertise in the utilization of the nursing process (assessment, planning, intervention and evaluation); recognizing that the scope and complexity of patient’s conditions vary from primary to chronic and routine to acute; and acts as a liaison between the health care provider and patient to promote optimal patient care. The Professional Nurse also implements educational programs, assists with complex technical/medical procedures, and supervises ancillary nursing personnel.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
License to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of North Carolina.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing. License to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of North Carolina.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Prefer experience in an acute/ambulatory care/office based setting, administration of intravenous therapy. Experience with College Health helpful. Experience administering allergy injections helpful.

ACCURACY REQUIRED IN WORK: Precision, exactness and accuracy are essential to the practice of nursing care.
CONSEQUENCE OF ERROR: Errors in clinical judgment may result in adverse occurrences that can include temporary or permanent damage or loss of life.
GUIDES, REGULATIONS, POLICIES AND REFERENCES USED BY EMPLOYEES: Primary guidelines come from the Nurse Practice Act of North Carolina. Other guidelines included UNC-CH Personnel Office, Office of State Personnel, CHS policies and procedures, Joint Commission, and organizational and Departmental Policy and Procedure manuals. Additional reference materials include current medical, nursing, and professional journals. Technical advices may be solicited from physicians, pharmacists, radiology technologists, laboratory technicians, physical therapists, health educators and campus police.
VARIETY AND PURPOSE OF PERSONAL CONTACTS: This position performs a wide range of professional nursing functions and administrative responsibilities depending on the clinical setting, specific patient assignment, and physical and mental diseases and disabilities of the population served. Contacts may include patients, clients, parents/spouses and other family members, individual physicians, physician extenders, nursing assistants, nurses, clerical support staff, pharmacists, colleagues, laboratory technicians, physical therapists, medical records personnel, support services, administrators, UNC Hospitals staff, North Carolina Board of Nursing, State of North Carolina and Joint Commission surveyors, UNC University system personnel, professional school faculty and students, and Chapel Hill Community members.
PHYSICAL EFFORT: On a daily basis, physical effort and stamina are required for the delivery of direct and indirect patient care. Examples include transporting, bending, lifting, standing for long periods of time, and monitoring of patient demand throughout the clinics that require extensive walking throughout the workday.
