Job Summary:
The K-12 Learning Specialist will work with local school districts to develop, coordinate, and provide professional development to schools under the direction of the Director; to develop and coordinate support for participants in the World Class Teaching Program with the direction of the Director.

Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  •   Coordinate monthly on-campus Continuity programs for current South Mississippi Writing Project Teacher consultants.
  •   Design professional development programs for teachers in grades K-12 in English, Reading, Science, and HIstory.
  •   Deliver professional development to area school districts in grades K-12. Work will be performed in school districts within our 10-county SMWP service area, Including demonstrating literacy lessons to teachers and students.
  •   Marketing Inservice as well as on-campus workshop opportunities to area schools and districts.
  •   Plan and coordinate 2 on-campus mini-conferences annually.
  •   Assist in coordinating reporting to funding agencies.
  •   Assist in recruiting new teacher consultants and teachers seeking National Board Certification.
  •   Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Minimum Qualifications:
    Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education or related field from an Accredited College or University, holds current teaching license at both elementary and secondary levels, seeking or holds NBCT Certification; minimum of five years K-12 teaching experience. Experience must include both elementary and secondary ELA instruction. Must have elementary endorsement and secondary English endorsement.


    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA):

    • Ability to develop and deliver professional development in a K-12 setting
    •   Ability to communicate with diverse groups
    •   Ability to work collaboratively with school-level administrators and teachers and independently.
    •   Ability to effectively plan and delegate the work of others.
    • Willingness to work with teachers in their classrooms. Workday will vary based on the hours of the school currently working in.
    • Ability to communicate with school administrators about the design and implementation of work in classrooms.


    Preferred Qualifications:
    Active teacher consultant in the South Mississippi Writing Project or other National Writing Project site; seven or more years of K-12 teaching experience. Experience presenting for a writing project site. Experience presenting at conferences.
