Position Summary
The Marketing and Sales Specialist supports the Brown School's Office of Continuing Education & Career Development, which develops and implements over 200 continuing education and career exploration events each year. The Specialist will develop and coordinate communications and marketing materials (including emails, newsletters, website and social media content, etc.) to promote sales of the Brown School’s Professional Development programs. They will assess current markets, customers, and opportunities with the goal of growing the Brown School’s Professional Development customer base.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities



Marketing

  • Develops and implements a marketing and communications strategy aimed at increasing registration to paid programming associated with Professional Development Workshop Series, Career Services events, Summer Institute, Post-Master’s Certificate programs, and Open Classroom webinars.
  • Coordinates the creation and design of the Department’s web page, email newsletters, and social media posts as key components of the Department’s overall marketing strategy.
  • Maintains email distribution lists.
  • Proofreads/edits materials and checks adherence to university standards prior to production.
  • Works as part of Washington University team and in partnerships with local organizations to effectively communicate programs and initiatives with other partners.


Audience Development

  • Promotes and maintains network of contacts within Washington University.
  • Maintains audience data and general trends in the professional development and social work continuing education markets.
  • Researches and performs outreach to new audiences.


Sales

  • Builds, manages, and maintains events in the department’s webpages and registration systems to maintain a current list of offerings and enrollments.  Administers customer service requests.  Maintains data in the department’s databases. Utilizes the Department’s registration system to assists with individual and group sales/registrations.
  • Assists with generating and analyzing sales and customer data reporting.


Program Support

  • Assists the Professional Development team with the facilitation of weekly in-person and virtual programs (most programming occurs on Fridays, occasional evening and weekend hours may be required).  These duties include but are not limited to: event set up and clean up, organization of materials, registration check in, communication/reminders to registrants and presenters, etc.

Performs other duties as assigned by the Assistant Dean for Continuing Education & Career Development.

Working Conditions

  • This position requires a work schedule that at times begins at 7:00 a.m. on Fridays.
  • Ability to move boxes weighing twenty pounds to set up for events up to three times per week and to move tables and chairs within a room to achieve an instructor’s desired room configuration.
  • Ability to travel to off-campus locations for some of our programs. 
  • Occasional weekend or evening hours.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to simultaneously manage multiple projects on rolling deadlines in a fast-paced setting. 
  • Previous sales and customer service experience essential.
  • Resourceful learner who is comfortable learning a variety of computer systems.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. 
  • Exceptionally strong analytical skills and proven capability to use data to drive marketing optimization.
  • Ability to work well with people from diverse backgrounds and be an effective and gracious ambassador of the school. 
  • Ability to work with and effectively tailor communications to people with a diversity of backgrounds, perspectives and needs.
  • Excellent organizational skills and high attention to detail. 
  • Methodical task completion and record keeping. 
  • Comfortable tabulating and analyzing basic, descriptive statistics.   
  • Literate in digital communications platforms, customer management software and related systems.


Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree with three years of experience in marketing, communications, customer engagement, event planning, programmatic sales or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Salary Range
$48,700.00 - $80,500.00 / Annually

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
