Description:
AquaSteady is a water-absorbent hydrogel made from seaweed. It helps farmers enhance soil fertility and water retention to protect crops from drought and reduced irrigation. AquaSteady is a cross-disciplinary, multi-establishment research initiative with Phase II funding from the U.S. National Science Foundation Convergence Accelerator. We're seeking an experienced Production Technician to oversee the hydrogel production in the Pratt Institute labs.
Objectives of this role

  • Maintain production schedule for on-time completion
  • Take an active role in planning production workflow and equipment
  • Identify and address key concerns that may alter or impact the production schedule
  • Monitoring and maintaining work safety, order in the production space, and good conditions of equipment
  • Planning and managing supplies orders
  • Oversee shipping schedule for on-time delivery to our research partners

Responsibilities
  • Monitor and assist with production in the lab
  • Partner with the design team on product development
  • Provide status reports to Principal Investigator and Project Manager
  • Assist in designing an efficient production workflow
  • Work to establish a physical and digital inventory of materials, supplies, and product
  • Monitor Graduate Assistants and other production assistants
  • Troubleshoot equipment-related issues
  • Oversee shipping and receiving of materials with partner institutions
  • Assist with liaising between the internal team and outside contractors to design automated production
  • Meet established deadlines
  • Ensure that health and safety regulations are met

This is a full-time temporary position.
35 hours per week until November 30, 2024, can be renewable for up to 2 years, contingent on grant funding. This L153 Clerical/Technical position is contingent on budgetary approval and is 100% grant-funded.
Qualifications:
  • Two or more years of experience in a production or product-management role
  • Ability to work effectively within a team

Preferred skills and qualifications
  • Experience in production, manufacturing, operations, or related field
  • Proficiency with Excel and Google Suite
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Attention to detail

Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications. Salary range is $60,000 - 65,000/year. The position will be onsite 5 days/wk.
