Position Summary
Production Editor of the Revista de Estudios Hispanicos, published three times yearly; administrative support person for Department of Romance Languages and Literatures.

Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

Journal Production

  • Serves as Production Editor for the Revista de Estudios Hispánicos (REH); works with the General Editor, two Book Review Editors and the Editorial Assistant graduate student to prepare and produce the journal, and is ultimately the sole editor responsible for signing off on the finished journal. The Production Editor also creates a calendar of goal deadlines to meet for each step of the process that is approved by the General Editor. The main duties of the Production Editor occur during the post-acceptance phase, and include preparing the manuscript for queries, copy-editing manuscripts in English, communicating with authors in both English and Spanish, incorporating query responses and final changes, and finalizing the journal issue for publication. First, the Production Editor formats all the documents (essays and book reviews) into InDesign book form, edits for adherence to REH standards (which are updated as needed after consultation with the General Editor) and MLA style and prepares the query sheets for each essay and book review author. At this point, the Production Editor works directly with the authors, only consulting with the General Editor for unusual issues. After receiving the query sheets and revised articles back from the authors, the Production Editor incorporates all changes, formats all of the essays together into book format and sends the book to Sheridan press. After the book is sent to press, Sheridan Press returns the eProof (bluelines) to the Production Editor one more time for final review. The Production Editor gives the final sign-off on the issue.

Journal Miscellaneous

  • During and after journal production, the Production Editor is responsible for coordinating and updating the subscriber lists and payments, uploading the final book to Project Muse online, submitting Copyright forms and securing Publication Agreements, distributing issues to subscribers, and sending out Reprint Permissions letters and invoices as requested. The Production Editor also helps the General Editor look for other sources of journal exposure such as Latindex, etc. The Production Editor assists with the organization of academic events sponsored by REH.

Website and Social Media

  • The Managing Editor maintains the REH section of the departmental webpage for Romance Languages and Literatures (RLL), using Drupal, and assists RLL’s Administrative Coordinator with maintenance of other sections of the department website. These duties include updating current text and photos, creating new pages, troubleshooting website issues as they arise, and occasionally creating web forms or writing short News articles when needed. The Production Editor is also responsible for maintaining the REH’s active presence on social media such as Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook.

Romance Languages and Literatures

  • In addition to the website, the Production Editor also performs limited administrative duties for the Department of Romance Languages and Literatures as needed, including creating posters for programs and events, updating and maintaining graduate publicity flyers, and updating and printing RLL student award certificates.

Other duties as assigned.
