Web User Experience Specialist


Job Description

EdPlus is seeking a highly-motivated Product Designer to join our high-performing team as the designer for user experience and visual design projects that are inside of the ASU Online and EdPlus portfolio. This role will be on our new Immersive Experience Design team and will work closely with other designers, stakeholders, units, content, and analytics teams using design and storytelling to conceptualize both marketing and learning experiences. As a Product Designer, you will deliver eye-catching and effective UI & UX for websites, 3D simulations, XR experiences, and mobile games/applications.

We’re looking for multifaceted designers who combine creativity and intellectual curiosity to solve problems in new ways. A creative and fun team player, with excellent communication skills, and an interest in immersive technologies (AR,VR, Simulations/Game Design). You’ll be responsible for designing solutions for a variety of user experience challenges as part of an innovative environment refining how users engage with higher education. Working collaboratively in diverse teams, the Product Designer will create forward-thinking and thoughtful experiences ensuring digital experiences support ASU and EdPlus’s overall strategy and goals.

Essential Duties

  • Designs, prototypes and iterates designs for web, print and mobile through Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Identifies and troubleshoots UX design problems (e.g. responsiveness, usability, accessibility, etc...)
  • Gathers and evaluates design requirements in collaboration with stakeholders and engineers.
  • Illustrates design ideas using storyboards, process flows, sitemaps and prototypes.
  • Works in an agile environment using Jira to help prioritize and organize projects.
  • Utilizes strong conceptual ability to find solutions to complex problems through clear and concise visualizations.
  • Researches new design tools and emerging immersive technologies.
  • Works directly with developers to ensure successful implementation of designs.
  • Adheres to brand standards on typography, colors, and spacing using the design system requirements.
  • Assumes or coordinates other duties or projects as assigned or directed.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Information Technology or related field AND one (1) year providing first level customer service and trouble-shooting support OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education form which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.


Desired Qualifications

  • Evidence of a Bachelor's degree or higher in a related field.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and/or experience in creating clean, user-friendly interfaces.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and/or experience in digital design (websites, presentations, and infographics). 
  • Graphic design experience. ( 1 year)
  • Evidence of skill, knowledge, and interest in the design and development of immersive technologies (AR, VR, or MR) and user experiences. 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of creating clean, user-friendly interfaces that drive user engagement and improve the overall student experience using user behavior (UX) data.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in Adobe Creative Suite, specifically Illustrator, Photoshop and After Effects.
  • Experience or interest in designing and manipulating 3D models.
  • Experience in presenting designs to stakeholders and leadership.
  • Evidence of effective interpersonal skills --to  build positive working relationships with other team members and groups within EdPlus and across ASU.
  • Experience in taking creative risks and recognize high quality design. 
  • Experience with motion graphics and video editing. 
  • Experience in 3D modeling software (e.g. Blender, Substance 3D Suite Maya, Zbrush, etc.) 
  • Demonstrated knowledge or interest in game/simulation design.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the Unity game engine.
  • Evidence of portfolio demonstrating responsive and scalable user-centered design solutions.
  • Evidence of industry experience in UI and UX design and experience in using data, current trends, and findings ways to elevate design through research, testing, and continuous learning.

Working Environment

EdPlus at ASU is located at SkySong, the ASU Scottsdale Innovation Center. The center houses a diverse business community that links technology, research, education and entrepreneurship to position ASU and Greater Phoenix as global leaders in the knowledge economy.

Activities are primarily performed in a regular, climate-controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting or standing. Daily use of desktop or laptop computer is required. Ability to clearly communicate verbally in English, read, write, see, and hear to perform essential duties. Regular review of completed tasks.
