Description

The Department of Surgery at the David Geffen School of Medicine is recruiting an exceptional team-oriented procurement specialist for thoracic organs. Our dynamic Division of Cardiac Surgery is interested in individuals who can meet the rigorous quality and demands of a very busy and world-renown thoracic transplantation program. Clinical responsibilities include surgical procurement of hearts, lungs, and heart lung blocks from deceased donors for transplantation. The ideal candidate should have experience in the areas of harvest, transplantation, myocardial protection, and determination of organ quality. Moreover, the successful candidate will assist with handling communication regarding the logistics of organ offers. The individual may also be involved in procurement for research and resuscitation of marginal organs. Salary Range: $78,800- $175,000



  • JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Qualifications

* MD or Foriegn equivalent * 3-5 years in cardiac surgery as a primary or assistant surgeon * Ability to work cooperatively as a member of a team and to promote teamwork in others. * Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with personnel in the transplant program, OPO, other procurement teams and host hospitals. * Skill in working independently and following through on assignments with minimal supervision. * Ability to recognize limitations of position and to ask for assistance as appropriate. * Ability to constructively incorporate input from senior surgeons. * Skill in performing multiple tasks simultaneously. * Skill in performing under conditions of frequent interruptions, distractions, and heavy workload while maintaining equanimity, accuracy, and productivity. * Ability to perform effectively under conditions of fluctuating workload. * Skill in adapting to unusual circumstances and changing priorities. * Working knowledge of medical terminology, cardiac surgery, cardiopulmonary physiology and anatomy, safety precautions, and infection control practices necessary in a working in an operating room environment. * Skill in analyzing data, information, problems, and procedures to enable the definition of problems or objectives, identify relevant factors, formulate logical solutions and follow up for resolution or implementation.
