Job Summary/Basic Function
About This Role:
 The position of Process Optimization Specialist will serve as a consultant to the local/regional manufacturing industry. The selected candidate will be required to focus on providing expertise in improving operational excellence, developing product/process solutions in coordination with Regional Director of TMAC or their designee, to accelerate profitable growth, reduce waste, and improve the overall global competitiveness of local/regional manufacturing industry. The Specialist will work with the Director of TMAC and the AVP of Research to enhance the capabilities and capacity of the Center in serving the needs of the manufacturing industry.
What You’ll Do – Position Responsibilities
  • Will analyze complex systems to identify value stream, bottlenecks, and areas to improve overall operations, including supply chain support at industrial locations. 30%
  • Collaborates with departments and management of industrial partners to analyze existing systems and value streams. Coordinates the scheduling of process improvement events for industrial partners; and assigns staff to projects as appropriate. 20%
  • Performs ongoing monitoring and evaluation of individual projects; provides updates and recommendations; promotes program sustainability by communicating with staff and monitoring past projects and results. Works with Engineering Specialist to improve processes within a department or organization using PDCA or DMAIC methodology for operation level projects and improvements. 20%
  • Directs process improvement group events, provides education and training for management and group members of industrial partners relating to project requirements, processes, goals and objectives. Works with Lead Technical Training Designer/Instructor to coordinate and implement training workshops relevant to manufacturing industry 10% 
  • Assists Center Director, TMAC staff and faculty in conducting assessments, developing proposals, and implementing projects and assists with the development of process improvement programs to increase efficiency and effectiveness of workflow processes 10%
  • Works with Lead Technical Training Designer/Instructor to coordinate and implement training workshops relevant to manufacturing industry. 5%
  • Assists with the development, preparation, and compilation of data; presents statistical and narrative reports in support of operational decision making for industrial partners. Assists in strategic planning to ensure the objectives of Center aligns with Lamar’s strategic plan. 5%

Minimum Qualifications
What You’ll Need to Succeed

  • Bachelor’s Degree in STEM related field.
  • Work experience will be considered as a substitution for minimum education requirement.
  • At least 5-years in an industrial manufacturing environment.
  • At least 5-years’ experience leading a maintenance or production team.
  • Experience with best practices in manufacturing industry.
  • Experience providing skills training and mentoring.
  • Trained in Six Sigma or SAP techniques.
