Scope of Position  

The Process Improvement and Change Management Lead will have experience in quality/process improvement, program management, and/or program evaluation. The staff member will work across OSUWMC Rehabilitation Services and the Department of Orthopedics within Ohio State University’s Wexner Medical Center to lead multiple broad-scope, highly complex process/quality improvement initiatives and to promote a culture of continuous improvement. In collaboration with the Department of Orthopaedics Vice Chair(s), as well as the Rehab Services Associate Director of Quality, the Musculoskeletal Improvement Specialist is responsible for coordinating mechanisms to support complex process/quality improvement efforts in the orthopaedic inpatient and outpatient areas, including Orthopaedic Spine, Total Hip Arthroplasty, Total Knee Arthroplasty, and Hip Fracture. The position will develop solutions, which may set precedent, within projects that may have significant and long-term impact. Additionally, the Process Improvement and Change Management Lead will be responsible for independently monitoring, reporting, and responding to data related to the quality of services and related improvement initiatives.

Position Summary  

The Process Improvement and Change Management Lead functions as an integral member of a collaborative process/quality improvement team, including Quality program leadership across Rehab Services and the Department of Orthopaedics and other necessary departments, as related to identified high priority orthopaedic services. The position will leverage process improvement tools and frameworks, change management strategies, and data analysis skills, as well as strong leadership, coaching, and project management skills to influence meaningful, data-driven change. The position will apply industry knowledge and advanced understanding of the aforementioned concepts to lead complex projects of large scope, developing new processes, metrics, and models as needed. The solutions and innovations the position proposes may set precedent and are expected to have substantial and long-term positive impact on patient outcomes and related process metrics.

The Process Improvement and Change Management Lead will be independently responsible for leading the following as related to the identified high priority quality areas: 1) identification, prioritization, and coordination of all implementation efforts performed by the aforementioned change management and improvement leadership team; 2) facilitation of process improvement data collection, analysis, evaluation, and report dissemination; 3) planning and execution of improvement strategies; 4) monitoring the effectiveness of change management and improvement strategies and revision of them as needed; 5) identifying and reducing barriers to successful process improvement implementation to achieve target goals. The position is responsible for coordinating process/quality improvement activities specific in the identified high priority areas, such as Orthopaedic Spine, Total Hip Arthroplasty, Total Knee Arthroplasty, and Hip Fracture. 

Minimum Qualifications

Required: The Process Improvement and Change Management Lead will have a background and experience in leading process/quality improvement initiatives, change management, and/or project management; bachelor’s level degree or equivalent combination of education and experience. Six years of change management, quality or process improvement experience or equivalent combination of training and experience.

Preferred:  Experience with interdepartmental communication or communication within a healthcare setting preferred. Certification and/or training in process improvement strategies preferred.

Ongoing: Maintains qualifications, training, and/or certifications necessary to perform job duties; demonstrates commitment to continuing education related to job duties; meets mandatory education and health requirements; demonstrates competence in technical, interpersonal, and cognitive skills required to meet essential job functions.
