Department Summary

The Department of Linguistics, an academic unit of the College of Arts and Sciences, provides undergraduate and graduate degrees. Our fundamental interest is in the nature of language, how language is used, and how this use impacts language learning, processing, and structure over historical and developmental time. Given this interest, we are also invested in the practical and interdisciplinary aspects of language and its use; that is, in its normal and disordered acquisition, teaching, maintenance, revitalization, loss, and also in its social impact and interrelation with social structures and institutions.

The department is comprised of 14 full-time professors and instructors, 24 graduate employees, 1 officer of administration, and 1 full time classified support staff. There are 27 doctoral students, 13 Master’s students, and 89 undergraduate majors. The department has a number of labs and $2.4 million in grants.


Position Summary

The Linguistics Department at the University of Oregon invites applications for a Pro Tem Research Assistant, Research Associate and Postdoctoral Scholar pool. Applications will be reviewed as research opportunities develop.


Minimum Requirements

To qualify for the rank of Research Assistant:
• Bachelor’s degree in Linguistics or related field

To qualify for the rank of Research Associate:
• PhD in Linguistics or related field

To qualify for the rank of Postdoctoral Scholar:
• PhD in Linguistics or related field
