Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
This position is located in Rockville, MD at the Universities at Shady Grove (USG).

Under general supervision, functions as a lead worker in the performance of journey level work in the operation of copy center related equipment in a campus-wide, large scale printing operation. Oversee Color and Black/White printing, course packet services, image resizing, collating, stapling, and binding of materials. Work with USG’s Office of Information of Technology (OIT) to resolve technical and data issues with ID and Printing equipment. Please see PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS.
Standard work hours are Mon-Fri, 8:30 AM-5:00 PM. This position is not telework eligible.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
High School Diploma or GED
Experience:
Six years progressively responsible experience in the operation of single and multi-color presses.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Comprehensive knowledge and skill in the operation and maintenance of high speed single and multi-color presses and related equipment.
  • Skill in setting up and maintaining close registration throughout production processes; in preparing plates and negatives; in selecting appropriate paper stock and inks.
  • Ability to communicate both orally and in writing; to follow oral and written instructions; to maintain effective work relationships; to lead and train others in press operations and production procedures; to evaluate methods for improving production and quality of work; to perceive normal color spectrum; to operate, adjust, repair and maintain assigned presses and related equipment; to lift, transport, and stock press supplies, paper, and related equipment; to wear and work in personal protective equipment.

Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience.

  • Six years progressively responsible experience in the operation of standard copier equipment.
  • Proficient in the use Microsoft Office (i.e., Excel, Word, Publisher, PowerPoint etc.), Google Workspace, PDF, Canvas, and Photoshop. Experience scaling and manipulating .png, jpeg files for pagination.
  • Ability to use mail merge.
  • Written and verbal communication skills.
  • Critical thinking and problem solving skills
  • Customer service skills Knowledge of copyright laws and their application to the educational environment.
  • Familiarity with standard office equipment and postal service machines.
  • Understanding of sorting and processing mail.
  • Practical understanding of copiers, printer use, care, and maintenance.
  • Leadership and motivation to market, promote and improve services offered.
  • Ability to mentor student employees.
  • Organizational, multi-tasking and time management skills.
  • Ability to manage diverse elements, conduct studies and analyses, establish procedures, collect, compile, and tabulate statistical data.
  • Ability to keep accurate, organized records, including financial records, invoicing, progress reports.

Physical Demands
Position requires frequent bouts of sitting, standing, reaching with hands and arms, and squatting. Will lift and carry supplies, equipment, mail bags and packages weighing up to 50 lbs. Must be able to set priorities and meet deadlines, handle a large number of tasks and projects simultaneously and tolerate the noise level and heat produced by the equipment. May need to work additional hours as needed.
