Job Summary

This unique Supervisor role will be responsible for helping to expand successful clinical/research programs across the MR/PETMR department by operationally leading - GE Engineers, Radiologists, technologists and Principal Investigators within the Department of Radiology and Biomedical Imaging clinical/research divisions.

The supervisor performs/leads routine to complex diagnostic exams to assist in diagnosis and/or treatment in both the inpatient and outpatient environment. The supervisor must be able to work safely in an acute care setting and be able to interact accordingly with anesthesia and/or other patient care departments that visit the MRI environment. The supervisor is responsible for performing MRI safety and quality control procedures on all MRI equipment as required by the department, supports MR clinical/research studies in the UCSF Human Imaging Research Core, solving operational, technical and staff problems as they arise and assists staff in analyzing and archiving MR image data.

The Principal MRI Supervisor responsibilities can include, yet are not limited to the following:

  • Management of all technologists and ancillary support staff under their direct supervision.
  • Organization of workflow, coordination of daily work schedules and shift coverage.
  • Knowledge of all procedures and equipment; maintenance of documentation.
  • Productivity of the department and staff.
  • Orientation and training of assigned staff, students, residents, and faculty.
  • Strong leadership skills and ability to effectively communicate with staff, other departments and physicians.

Department Description

Required Qualifications

  • ARRT
  • CRT (if applicable to modality)
  • Modality Specific Certification (e.g. CT, MRI, RDMS, Mammography, Nuclear Medicine)
  • AHA BLS (CPR) Certification
  • Demonstrated subject matter knowledge of a radiology modality. Ability to apply principles to an acute care setting to ensure operations meet regulatory standards.
  • In-depth knowledge of radiology equipment in order to operate and monitor all relevant technology.
  • Strong knowledge of medical center, HR and UC policies and processes. Knowledge and ability to monitor compliance with relevant internal policies and external regulations.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills in training and guiding employees on radiology modality techniques. Motivates and inspires staff to improve laboratory services.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize effectively to meet deadlines in a complex, challenging environment.
  • Ability to organize assigned staff and unit operations in an efficient and effective manner. Skills to coordinate schedules of the patient, doctor, technicians, and nurse to serve the patient in a timely manner.
  • Ability to develop and maintain cooperative working relationships with physicians, researchers, radiology technicians, and other clinical staff. Interpersonal skills to work with a variety of patient populations and show sensitivity.
  • Skills to diagnose and troubleshoot equipment issues and software malfunctions in order to contact appropriate service personnel. Demonstrated ability to solve problems and suggest solutions within defined procedures and policies through critical thinking process.
  • Verbal and written communication skills to explain technical radiology concepts, actively listen, persuade, advise, and counsel.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
  • Licensed technologist in a radiology modality.
  • Prefer 2-3 years previous lead/supervisory skills.

License/Certification
