Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Principal Lab Assistant in the Department of Neurosurgery at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.

The RWJ Rutgers Medical School is seeking a Principal Lab Assistant to support the PI in basic research on the following topics: 1) molecular and cellular studies of brain cells’ compensatory and repair mechanisms in response to brain injury and 2) risk factors of neurological, neurodegenerative or/and neuropsychiatric diseases.
This support will entail maintaining mouse lines, as well as conducting mouse behavioral assays and bench-work experiments including biochemical and tissue culture methods as advised and supervised by the PI and Post-doctoral researchers in the team.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Mouse handling, genotyping or/and behavioral tests.
  • Rodent brain dissection, stereotaxic surgery, cryostat sectioning, immunohistochemistry and confocal microscopy.
  • Basic molecular biology or biochemistry techniques for the studies of DNA, RNA or/and protein including SDSPAGE and immunoblotting, DNA sub-cloning and amplification, PCR, protein overexpression and purification from E-coli.
  • Tissue culture techniques such as maintenance of cell lines, transfection or primary neuronal cultures.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
  • BS or MS degree in biomedical or biological science with high motivation toward basic neuroscience research.
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Strong organizational, critical thinking, team interaction and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Preference will be given to candidates with prior experience in neuroscience and mouse works.
