Job Summary

As the Principal Electronic Engineer, you will provide master-level electrical project engineering support and oversight through review, research, analysis, design, communication, coordination, and field observation activities.  You will provide strategic direction to ensure electrical project scope is executed successfully and in accordance with university standards and the customer's desired results. This position will collaborate with project managers for resolution of engineering issues on projects. You will also review and comment on engineering work from outside architectural/engineering firms. 


You will collaborate with all members of the project team through planning, design, construction, and warranty. You will also provide master-level post-project facility engineering consultation, often on complex and multi-dimensional issues and provide design, analysis, and field engineering support and oversight of select projects and Physical Facilities programs. This position will also provide facilities engineering support and oversight to operations and maintenance staff and other departments upon request. You will provide condition assessment support and oversight for the building condition assessment program, as well as provide support and oversight with activities concerning the development and upkeep of university design standards

Capital Asset Management is responsible for capital construction project planning, design and delivery. The department collaborates with architects, engineers, contractors, other internal Purdue departments and service providers to meet the needs of the campus community. The engineering group within Capital Asset Management is a team of dynamic experts that provides project engineering, facilities engineering, consultation and condition assessment services.

What We're Looking For:

Experience and Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or engineering technology with electrical emphasis
  • Minimum eight (8) years of post-PE registration experience in the field of electrical engineering (equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered) 
  • Indiana PE license or ability to attain Indiana PE within 90 days
  • Design, analysis, condition assessment, project engineering, and facilities engineering experience in building electrical systems
  • Advanced knowledge of engineering principles and techniques of engineering planning; equipment and materials used in engineering operations; specialized subjects used in the fields of engineering, such as mathematics, statistics, mechanics, power, physics, and chemistry; and strength of materials 

 

Skills Needed:

  • Experience with:
    • electrical metering, arc flash analysis, short circuit coordination studies, and lighting and power design
    • energy-efficient design concepts
  • AutoCAD or MicroStation drafting experience
  • Ability to:
    • apply engineering principles to practical engineering problems; use engineering equipment and tools, including computer applications; make, read, and interpret engineering drawings and specifications
    • relate abstract ideas to actual needs and adopt an effective course of action
    • establish and maintain effective working relationships with others
    • exercise sound engineering judgment and exhibit solid leadership to establish well-reasoned solutions
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to satisfactorily perform self-directed activities of high complexity without engineering oversight, guidance, and assistance
