Position Summary: 

Our team of specialists provides affirming, supportive care with a full range of services, across multiple locations within Orange County. The physicians of the Gender Diversity Program (GDP) are experienced at working with people whose gender identity or expression may be in conflict with their physical characteristics or with what others expect of them. Our goal is to help each individual live happy, fulfilling and authentic lives.
The position of the Authorization Coordinator will work under the general supervision of the Ambulatory Care Admin Manager to support the overall objectives of the GDP. This incumbent will perform authorization and referral duties such as obtaining payment, physician referrals, and obtaining funding sources. Will explain patients’ financial responsibilities and ensures necessary documents are obtained and completed. Complete authorizations and forward information to payments in a timely manner. Assist with additional duties as needed. Salary Range: 

 

Hourly Rate  Minimum   $24.66                  Midpoint              $27.66               Maximum $30.65

 

Required Qualifications:

 Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across the Health System

Demonstrated experience using MS Office

Ability to work weekends, holidays, and evenings

Previous experience with computer registration and registration scheduling system

Ability to interpret and understand various medical insurance plans and make accurate determinations regarding coverage

General knowledge of ICD9 and CPT codes

Must be able to travel to off site physician practices

Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload

Must demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job

Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English

Must demonstrate general understanding of medical terminology

Minimum one (1) year recent experience (within past two (2) years) registering patients in a hospital or clinic, working as a Medical Assistant, or working in medical billing

Must possess the skill, knowledge and ability essential to the successful performance of assigned duties

 

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

Demonstrated experience with authorization process and surgical scheduling

Bilingual in English and Spanish

Familiarity of Joint Commission standards

Experience with Epic

Knowledge of University and medical center organizations, policies, procedures and forms
