The College
Position Type: Other Academic Appointee
Chicago, IL
Sep 8, 2021
Description
Primary instructors have full responsibility for teaching a self-designed course in the Immersion program for pre-college (academically advanced high school) students, developed in collaboration with the Summer Session Office. These are graded courses designed specifically for academically advanced high school students ready to tackle UChicago undergraduate-level material and assignments, and feature both traditional (e.g., lecture, discussion) and experiential (e.g., labs, field trips) learning activities.
Immersion courses are taught in one of two formats:
- An intensive three-week format (June 13-30 or July 5-21, 2022) that meets in-person Monday through Friday, from 9am to 3pm, with a lunch break from 11:30am to 1pm. (Please note that circumstances might necessitate moving in-person courses to remote instruction , so candidates should be ready to shift to that format. The course dates would remain the same, with some modification of the daily schedule.)
- An intensive five-week format (July 5-August 5, 2022) that is remotely taught, with synchronous class sessions held Monday through Friday, from 6pm to 8pm Central Time, additional morning and afternoon discussion or lab sections, and asynchronous materials such as pre-recorded lectures made available via Canvas.
***While we will accept proposals for new pre-college course offerings in any academic area represented in The College (click here for the list of programs of study), the following areas are of particular interest for Summer 2022:
- Business/Entrepreneurship
