SUMMARY:

The Pride Pathway Advising Coordinator collaborates with members of both the College of Innovation and Design and the Department of Curriculum and Instruction to create a course paradigm for students and advise them throughout the entire Pride Pathway program (from the Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences through Alternative Teacher Certification).  The position directs orientation sessions and provides relevant materials and resources, and advises students concerning their educational or career goals, academic requirements, and related personal concerns.  This position is located at the A&M-Commerce at Dallas location.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides academic advice and guidance to students on degree programs, academic schedules, course schedules, and course planning. Provides guidance for students on academic suspension/probation and input on probationary status decisions. Assists students with adds/drops, withdrawals, and changes of curriculum/majors. Reviews academic records, prerequisites and test scores on file for proper course recommendations.
  • Monitors student progress and degree requirements. Verifies completion of degree requirements and assists with graduation checks.
  • Analyzes data and communicates results utilized in retention and enrollment management initiatives within the Colleges (i.e., weekly enrollment reports for current students, course need projections, etc.).
  • Serves as coordinator of Pride Pathway orientation materials and modules.
  • Assists in developing communicating short- and long-term goals for Pride Pathway course changes or updates to prospective and current students.
  • Coordinate with the Certification Office to assure coursework and program components meet program and accreditation requirements.
  • Compiles and analyzes program data to facilitate program improvement.
  • Serves as graduate and undergraduate advisor through post-baccalaureate alternative teacher certification.
  • Provides students with updated academic information about graduation requirements.
  • Conducts orientation registration sessions and attends new student orientations.
  • Works collaboratively with faculty and staff to implement departmental programs and Student Learning Outcome Assessments.
  • Works with public school partners on collaborative projects and mutual goals.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience / Knowledge / Skills: Four years of related experience in advising and recruiting.  Word processing, spreadsheet, and database knowledge.  Knowledge of student information systems, degree planning, and degree audits.  Excellent written communication, analytical, interpersonal, and organization skills.
  • Ability to: Multi-task and work well as part of a team.  Perform all tasks to serve both face-to-face and fully online student populations. Independently organize and set priorities, interpret and prepare reports, and compose memoranda and letters. Work with sensitive information and maintain confidentiality.  Present information clearly and concisely.

  • Other Requirements:  Ability and willingness to travel between multiple A&M-Commerce campus sites as well as to Dallas-Fort Worth area ISDs.

PREFERRED EDUCATION / SKILLS/ EXPERIENCE:

Master’s degree.  Familiarity with alternate teacher certification.  Public school teaching experience.

SUPERVISION OF OTHERS:

May oversee graduate assistants or student workers.
