Position Description
The Harvard John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS) seeks applications for a preceptor in introductory computer science subjects including discrete mathematics, software engineering, and machine learning. The appointment is expected to begin on July 1, 2022.  The preceptor will be responsible for assisting instructors of large introductory courses with course management, student support, guidance of course assistants and teaching fellows, and section instruction.  We expect the preceptor to help with at most two courses per semester.  The preceptor will work with the Computer Science Area to select course assignments based on need and preceptor preference and expertise.  Assignments will be taken from our set of annual large courses, which includes CS 20 Discrete Mathematics for Computer Science, CS 32 Computational Thinking and Problem Solving, CS 51 Abstraction and Design in Computation, CS 61 Systems Programming and Machine Organization, CS 120 Introduction to Algorithms and Their Limitations, CS 124 Data Structures and Algorithms, and/or CS 181 Machine Learning.
 
The position is for three years, renewable for a term of up to five years, contingent on performance, enrollments, curricular need, position availability, and dean authorization.
Basic Qualifications
A bachelor’s or higher degree in computer science or closely related field is required. 
Additional Qualifications
The successful applicant should have experience in teaching introductory computer science courses, either as lecturer or teaching assistant, and evidence of proficiency with team management. Other helpful qualifications would include experience at a liberal arts college or university; instruction in ethical issues as they relate to computer science; and experience with producing video and/or audio content for technical courses.
