Position Description | The Department of Linguistics seeks applications for a full-time preceptor in American Sign Language (ASL). The appointment is expected to begin July 1, 2024. The preceptor will be responsible for teaching beginning and/or intermediate in-person courses as part of our existing six-semester ASL course sequence, with the opportunity to develop and teach advanced courses in ASL, Deaf history and culture, ASL Literature, sign language linguistics, or related fields depending on student interest and instructor expertise, and working with the Linguistics department to support and develop activities and events on campus connected to the ASL curriculum. The position is initially for three years, renewable for a term of up to five years (eight years in total) contingent upon performance, enrollments, and curricular need. |
Basic Qualifications | The successful applicant should have at least two years of experience teaching courses in American Sign Language at the college level, evidence of prior teaching success, an advanced (masters or doctoral) degree in Sign Language Education or a related field (Linguistics, Deaf Studies), native or near-native fluency in ASL, and extensive knowledge of Deaf culture. |
