Job Overview
 

The Pre-Award Specialist provides support to Law Center faculty - including but not limited to and Centers, Institutes & Clinics - in all aspects of proposal development, application, submission, and award setup - with a major focus on the preparation of proposal submissions for federal and non-federal funding mechanisms.

Responsibility examples:

  • Administration of Pre-award activities, such as identifying, organizing, facilitating, and submitting the development of new, resubmission, and competitive renewal research proposals for all grants and collaborative opportunities with other institutions
  • Correction of selected data entry errors in GMS/Workday related to Award Attributes,
    Amounts, Dates, Facilities & Administration (IDC) set up, Effective Dates on Amendments, Revenue Allocation Profiles, and Worktags.
  • Completion and provision of guidance for complex and highly visible awards in Federal/State/Foundation awards


Work Interactions
 

Reporting directly to the Director of Grants Administration, the Pre-Award Specialist reports works closely with other staff members in Financial Affairs, the Joint Office of Research Administration (JORA), the Office of Sponsored Project Financial Operations (SPFO), the Office of Development, and other collaborating offices to ensure that proposals and financial reports are complete, accurate and in compliance with sponsor and institutional regulations, policies, and guidelines.


This position has been designated as Hybrid. Requirements and Qualifications
 

  • Bachelor’s degree – preference for Master’s degree
  • 5-7 years of research administration experience
  • Expertise in electronic grants submissions through Grants.gov and other electronic portals
  • Familiarity with all components of federal grants and contracts
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, organizational skills, and
    ability to function in a fast-paced academic setting

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with NIH funding mechanisms - including R01, P01, P30, and T32
  • Certified Research Administration (CRA) certification
