Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit | The School of Education is an academic unit reporting to the Provost. The School is a major center of research, teaching, and public service within the State of North Carolina, the nation, and the world. The School offers a full range of undergraduate and graduate programs. The mission of the School of Education is to conduct research, and generate basic and applied knowledge about human development, educational technology and entrepreneurship, teaching and learning, school counseling, school psychology, administration, as well as educational policy and leadership; prepare leaders in the profession of education by conducting outstanding research, teaching, and service; and assist in the development of strong and effective public schools in North Carolina. In order to fulfill its mission, the School is organized into three academic divisions: (1) Culture, Curriculum, & Teacher Education (CCATE), (2) Learning, Development & Psychological Sciences (LDPS), and (3) Educational Policy, Organization, & Leadership (EPOL). |
Position Summary | This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement that may include a partially remote work location, consistent with System Office policy. UNC Chapel Hill employees are generally required to reside within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station. The Pre-Award Research Administrator position will provide pre-award support for researchers within the School of Education. The position will assist faculty and staff in the development and submissions of proposals, including budgets and justifications, and will work with faculty and staff to ensure all pre-award requirements have been met while adhering to all federal, state, university and sponsor guidelines prior to proposal submission. This position reports to the School’s Research Development Manager and will work closely with the Office of Sponsored Programs and other research related offices. |
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements | Bachelor’s degree in business administration, public administration, or related business area; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions. |
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience | -Ability to learn and develop in-depth understanding of pre-award research administration. -Proficient time management skills including the ability to establish and manage projects within specified deadlines. -Ability to act independently, exercise discretion, and use sound judgement. -Ability to assist faculty in budget forecasts when developing research proposals. -Strong written and interpersonal communication skills -Strong customer service focus -Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word. |
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience | -Prior work in pre-award research administration -Knowledge of programs and procedures for granting agencies, including federal agencies (ex. NSF, DoEd, NIH) as well as state agencies and private foundations, and knowledge of relevant OMB regulations. -Excellent organization, interpersonal, writing and communication skills and customer service focus. -Familiarity with electronic research administration such as eRA commons, Research.gov, Grants.gov etc. -Certified Research Administrator (CRA) or Certified Pre-Award Research Administrator (CPRA) |
