Friends University is seeking to fill the PR & communications Manager position in Wichita Kansas. This position provides direction and oversight for developing, deploying, enhancing, and monitoring communication initiatives and tactical plans. Serve as a 'front-line' communications resource presenting Friends University to a range of internal and external stakeholders using both traditional channels and new media as appropriate. Develop and maintain a proactive media relations plan, including development of news releases, management of media inquiries and interview requests. Maintain and cultivate contacts with media. Plan, develop and produce twice-yearly University magazine. Manage, develop, and proof weekly email newsletter for faculty and staff. Write content for releases, alumni magazine, brochures, and other printed materials as needed.

Skills & Requirements

Three to five years’ public relations, and/or writing or editing experience is required. One year’s experience in desktop layout, working with media and photography desired; experience in higher education preferred. Two or more years working with social media.

A bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, marketing, or related field required.

Ability to operate computer equipment and software including word-processing, email service provider tools, spreadsheet, and internal database mainframe for record keeping and communication purposes (Microsoft Office preferred). Understanding of online marketing including search engine optimization, Google AdWords, and other online marketing tactics as well as web analytics software. Experience writing in Associated Press style.
