Introduction of School/Department:
The mission of Yale’s Section of Pulmonary, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine (Yale-PCCSM) is to deliver compassionate and effective patient care, to perform cutting-edge and innovative clinical, translational and basic science research, and to provide rigorous training of future leaders in academic Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine and Science. We are looking to hire a Postgraduate Associate to assist with the LANTERN study (PI: Dr. Lauren Ferrante), an NIA-funded R01 that aims to identify unmet needs affecting post-ICU functional recovery among older adult ICU survivors.
Overview of the Position:
Education:The postgraduate associate will support this research by screening and recruiting hospitalized participants, conducting structured interviews and collecting specific data in a variety of environments (hospital, home, or telephone) according to specified sources and protocols. They will attend team field and data management meetings. They may also assist with literature reviews to support publication efforts, write and edit materials for publication or presentation, and assist with limited data analysis. They may perform additional functional incidental to research activities. This is a great opportunity for recent college graduates who would like to gain more clinical and research experience with older adults before applying to graduate, medical, or nursing school.
Training:The postgraduate associate will receive training in various translational research skills, including: Recruitment, enrollment, and retention eligible study participants in the hospital, including the intensive care units
- Design and maintenance of online REDCap databases
- Performing assessments of physical and cognitive function
- Conduct analysis of subjective and objective quantitative data
- Use of electronic medical record databases (EPIC)
- Written and oral communication of results
- Publication of original research, including abstracts and manuscripts
- Building knowledge in critical illness and aging research
Mentoring:The postgraduate associate will be mentored by Dr. Ferrante, and LANTERN study clinical and research staff to focus on personal and professional growth. Dr. Ferrante and other research team members and will provide constructive feedback on their performance.
Location:
The postgraduate position is based at the Yale School of Medicine Program on Aging in New Haven. Field work takes place at various Yale New Haven Health hospital campuses and participant home visits across Connecticut.
This is a paid, full-time position with benefits, with a 12-month fixed duration with a maximum possible 12-month extension, with an annual salary of $44,400 plus benefits.
Qualifications:
- Postgraduate positions are open to those who have recently received a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a related discipline.
- Candidates must have strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate with healthcare professionals, study participants, and research investigators.
- Candidates must have strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications.
- Candidates must have the ability to work in a variety of settings, including the hospital, patients’ homes, and over the phone.
- Candidates must have a car or other form of transportation with the ability to travel within Connecticut for field visits.
- Occasional nights and weekend work may be required to accommodate participant availability.
- Experience working with geriatric populations, performing physical assessments, and interview experience is a plus.
