The Muzumdar Lab (Department of Genetics) is seeking a postgraduate associate interested in cancer biology, molecular biology, metabolism, and genetics to work on an innovative interdisciplinary project that aims to understand how dietary fat and gut microbial communities - associated with obesity - contribute to pancreatic cancer development.
Our lab focuses on understanding the genetic, environmental, and host factors that govern the earliest stages of pancreatic cancer evolution with the goal to develop precision-based prevention therapies for this recalcitrant disease. Our lab fosters a respectful, fun, and exciting multidisciplinary environment, spanning experts with backgrounds in oncology, metabolomics, immunology, endocrinology, and bioinformatics. Through our projects, our trainees have access to cutting-edge technology and unique opportunities for collaboration across different Yale Departments within the Yale School of Medicine.
Training: Through this project, candidates will gain experience in broadly applicable techniques in biomedical research including, but not limited to, mammalian and bacterial DNA and RNA sequencing, cell culture, western blotting, quantitative RT-PCR, immunofluorescence microscopy, and more specialized techniques involved in metabolomic analysis and GPCR activation screens. Candidates will also receive extensive training in mouse colony management, physiology, and tissue histology.
Mentoring: Candidates will receive one-on-one mentoring from designated postdoctoral fellow in the lab, on experimental design and execution. Additional mentorship will come through interactions with other members in the laboratory and their projects; participation in lab meetings, journal clubs, and seminars; and periodic one-on-one meetings with PI Dr. Mandar Muzumdar to discuss scientific progress and career development. As a part of the Yale Cancer Biology Institute and Yale Cancer Center, the lab offers an outstanding and fully resourced training environment including support and mentorship for an eventual transition to a graduate career in biology and/or medicine.
Education: Successful candidates should be highly motivated and hardworking with an educational (bachelor's or master's degree) with research background in general biology, cancer biology, molecular biology, metabolism, or genetics. Prior research experience, especially with mouse models is preferred, but not required.
Interested applicants should submit an application through the Department of Genetics Interfolio portal. Application materials should include a CV with names of three references and a cover letter describing motivations, research interests and experience, and formal qualifications.
Specific questions regarding this opportunity can be sent to mandar . muzumdar@yale . edu or [email protected] .
