Updated: about 5 hours ago
Location: New Haven, CONNECTICUT

Title of Position: Postgraduate Associate
Department and School: Department of Internal Medicine, Section of Translational Hematology, Yale Cancer Center, Yale School of Medicine
Anticipated Appointment: ASAP. Initial appointment for one year, with anticipated renewal for a second year based on performance and funding.
Compensation: Compensation will follow Yale University guidelines for postgraduate trainees. The current minimum compensation is $45,600 per year for July 1, 2026–June 30, 2027.

Position Summary

The Sharda Lab at Yale School of Medicine is seeking a highly motivated Postgraduate Associate to join our research program at the intersection of hematology, vascular biology, and human disease. The laboratory is part of Yale Translational Hematology as well as Yale Cardiovascular Research Center and the Vascular Biology and Therapeutics Program, and conducts closely integrated basic and translational research.
Our research spans two complementary areas:
1.    Endothelial cell biology, with a particular focus on the cellular and molecular mechanisms controlling formation and secretion of von Willebrand factor (vWF)-containing Weibel-Palade bodies and how these pathways can be manipulated to modulate plasma vWF.
2.    Translational hematology, using patient-derived samples (blood and others) together with genomic, transcriptomic, and proteomic approaches to investigate mechanisms of thrombosis and vascular inflammation in disorders such as sickle cell disease.
The Postgraduate Associate will participate in projects across both areas and will gain broad exposure to mechanistic laboratory science and human translational research.

Research Responsibilities

The successful candidate will receive hands-on training and participate in:
•    Processing human blood samples and isolation of blood-cell populations for downstream genomic, transcriptomic, proteomic, and functional studies
•    Mammalian and primary endothelial cell culture
•    Molecular biology, biochemical, and cell-based assays
•    Protein and nucleic-acid preparation and analysis
•    Microscopy and studies of endothelial cell secretion and function
•    Experimental design, data analysis, interpretation, and presentation of results
•    General laboratory organization, reagent preparation, inventory, and day-to-day laboratory management
The individual will work closely with the PI and other members of the lab, as well as collaborators around the Yale campus.

Education, Training and Mentoring

This is a research-training position intended for an individual seeking intensive research experience before pursuing graduate, medical, MD/PhD, or other advanced biomedical training.
The Postgraduate Associate will receive direct mentorship from Dr. Anish Sharda in experimental design, rigorous laboratory methods, scientific reasoning, data interpretation, and scientific communication. The trainee will participate in laboratory meetings, seminars, and the broader research communities in hematology and vascular biology at Yale. As experience develops, the trainee will be encouraged to take increasing intellectual ownership of projects and contribute to abstracts, presentations, and manuscripts.

Qualifications

Applicants should have:
•    A bachelor’s degree in biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, biomedical sciences, or a related discipline by the start of the position
•    A strong interest in biomedical research and human disease
•    Previous research experience is preferred, but not required
•    Candidates should be highly motivated, and able to work both independently and collaboratively

Application Instructions

Interested applicants should email Dr. Anish Sharda at [email protected] and send:
•    Curriculum vitae or résumé
•    A brief cover letter describing prior research experience, research interests, future career goals, and interest in the Sharda Lab
•    Unofficial or official undergraduate transcript
•    Contact information for at least 2 references

Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled.
