Position Summary

The primary purpose of this position is to conduct scientific research in support of funded NIH projects the manifestations of human papilloma virus in head and neck cancers. The employee will be responsible for independently conducting research using patient samples, bioinformatics databases, and cultured cells. Additional procedures involve interacting with patients in a research context, writing IRB protocols, and testing HPV serotypes. The person in this position will be required to keep detailed and accurate records of experimental test procedures and results, and present and discuss results with the PIs. The individual is expected to write and submit manuscripts based on the work, and is expected to participate in writing grants for projects that they develop independently. The individual is also expected to be able to train others in the lab on specific procedures with which they have unique experience, participate in research training programs including required human and/or animal protocol training, didactic components, conferences, and national meetings.

Educational Requirements

M.D., D.O., or equivalent degree required.

Qualifications and Experience

2 years beyond time of degree. Familiarity with cancer cell biology, basic medicine and otolaryngology, and experimental design. Must be accepted to the accredited residency program in Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery at UNC Chapel Hill.
