|Job Description Summary:||
We are currently seeking a Postdoctoral Scientist Position in the Chung Lab. The Chung Lab is part of the Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology and the Cancer Center of the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences. We are excited to work with capable and passionate scientists to solve important questions in cancer metastasis. To learn more about us, please visit:
The Chung Laboratory is a group of scientists addressing fundamental questions in human disease. In particular, we wish to discover how cancer cells become metastatic. Cancer metastasis is the main cause of death in cancer patients. However, it is not clear how cancer cells from solid tumors spread, and this poses one of the biggest challenges in cancer biology. The Chung Lab aims to reveal the crucial molecular and cellular mechanisms in this process, by dissecting the role of novel biophysical changes that we recently reported. We address this important question using both conventional biochemical/cell biological tools and novel and cutting-edge biophysical modalities, including single molecule tracking (SMT) in 2D and 3D on living cells, super-resolution microscopy such as SIM (structured illumination microscopy), mathematical modeling/simulations, and device fabrication. We are looking for enthusiastic postdoctoral candidates who wish to contribute to this exciting research.
This position is primarily a temporary/training position in which the incumbent plays a substantive role in planning and conducting research by designing and conducting experiments in a controlled laboratory setting. In collaboration with the Principal Investigator, this role will participate in the planning of independent research, will analyze and interpret data, will publish results, will represent the university at conferences and meetings, and may develop new theories and methodologies. This position may also help the Principal Investigator to lead and direct the work of lower level research staff. This role performs work under the supervision of experienced researchers. Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
Qualified candidates will hold a Doctoral degree in a related discipline. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position.
