Job Description Summary:

GW’s Department of Microbiology, Immunology, and Tropical Medicine (MITM) conducts innovative, fundamental, basic and translational research for HIV/AIDS and neglected conducts innovative, fundamental, basic and translational research for HIV/AIDS and neglected tropical diseases. MITM has a strong tradition of training and policy advocacy for these infectious and parasitic diseases, which initiate and perpetuate poverty and suffering worldwide. MITM is searching for a full-time Postdoctoral Scientist for Dr. Lynch’s laboratory. Dr. Lynch’s main interest is to investigating the impact of broadly neutralizing antibodies on both the virus and infected cells for the development of potent preventative and therapeutic agents against HIV and flavivirus infection.

The lab is seeking a highly motivated recent PhD graduate for a postdoctoral position to study early B cell responses in HIV-1 infection and vaccination. This position will require independent planning, executing, and analyzing immunology and virology experiments in the context of HIV-1 and/or flavivirus infection. The individual will conduct experiments with input, mentoring and direct guidance from the Dr. Lynch in order to advance their career in research.

Responsibilities include:
•Genetic analysis of B cell repertoire in response to infection and/or vaccination.
•Analysis of antibody responses by functional assays such as ELISA and Neutralization.
•Work closely with students and mentor others in lab.
•Participate and present in group meetings
•Present data at national and international meetings
•Write manuscripts for publication based on their experiments
•Perform any other duties as appropriate within their competence, as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

Require’s a PhD in the field or in a related area.

Additional Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications:
Preferred Qualifications:

The position requires a Ph.D. in Evolutionary Biology, Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Immunology or similar and a strong publication and presentation record.
Experience in bioinformatics is desired and experience in virologic and immunoassays, cell culture, molecular cloning and protein production is recommended. Ability to follow a set procedure as well as develop own protocols and ability to work both as a team and independently.
Ideal candidate is expected to work well in a small lab setting and have enthusiasm for the practice of science.
