JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Huck Institutes of the Life Sciences seeks an outstanding scientist to fill a Postdoctoral Scholar position to contribute to ongoing studies of zoonotic viruses in the research group of Dr. Ruth Nissly.

Projects include genome sequencing, transcriptomics, development of improved diagnostic assays, and infection studies using several viruses, including some requiring BSL3 handling. The successful candidate will lead the projects by designing and performing experiments, conducting data analysis and manuscript writing, and providing training and mentoring for undergraduate students.

Education and Experience: This position requires a PhD in microbiology, virology, pathobiology, or a related field. The successful candidate should have their PhD or completed all requirements towards their PhD before the start date. The incumbent must possess a strong publication record and experience with the following technical areas:

  • In vitro (mammalian cell) and in vivo (mouse) virus research utilizing BSL3 pathogens
  • Next-generation sequencing experimental design and data processing
  • Development and optimization of molecular assays related to viral nucleic acid detection
