Position Summary

The candidate will work with a SAMSI research program either on Mathematical and Statistical Methods for Climate and the Earth System or on Quasi-Monte Carlo and High-Dimensional Sampling Methods for Applied Mathematics, under the supervision of Prof Richard Smith. Additionally, the Research Triangle area offers rich opportunities to collaborate with vibrant optimization and astrostatistics groups at UNC, Duke and NC State. The position is part of a research project funded by the National Science Foundation.

Educational Requirements

PhD in Mathematics, Statistics or related field

Qualifications and Experience

An ideal candidate will have a strong background in statistics, operations research or applied mathematics, with demonstrated interest in optimization or in mathematical/statistical methods for astronomy.
