Job Summary
The Hartz Laboratory at the University of Kentucky in Lexington, KY is seeking qualified candidates for a postdoctoral position for a NIH-funded R01 project focused on blood-brain barrier dysfunction in Alzheimer’s disease. 
 
Ideal candidates are recent or soon-to-be PhD, MD/PhD, or DVM graduates with a background in neuroscience. Basic understanding of Alzheimer’s disease and/or blood-brain barrier is beneficial. Experimental approaches will include in vitro, ex vivo, and in vivo models. Techniques and methods will include biochemical and molecular analyses, histological techniques (cryosectioning/tissue fixation/staining of brain slices). An emphasis for this position will be on imaging techniques including confocal imaging, in vivo MP imaging, CLARITY, superresolution and on behavioral testing (Y-maze, novel object recognition, Morris water maze, radial arm water maze, light/dark box test). 
 
The candidate will work with the PI, lab manager, postdoctoral researchers and graduate and undergraduate students. They will be part of a motivated research team, work in a highly-productive scientific environment, use state-of-the-art equipment, and employ innovative approaches to generate high quality data that they are expected to communicate with the research community. Candidates will receive comprehensive mentoring, have to be motivated, enthusiastic, committed, and have an outstanding work ethic. 
 
As part of the Sanders-Brown Center on Aging (http://www.uky.edu/coa/), the Hartz Laboratory fosters interdisciplinary research and is dedicated to improving the treatment of brain disorders, specifically Alzheimer’s disease.
