POSTDOCTORAL SCHOLAR

The Molecular Aggregation Network at the University of Iowa has one NSF-funded postdoctoral position available in the Fassler lab, available on a full- or part-time basis (minimum of 50%). The incumbent has the option to engage in teaching introductory biology lab courses during the fall and spring semesters. In the event of choosing to teach, a full-time postdoc can request an appointment reduction and be hired as a part-time adjunct faculty member. Conversely, a part-time postdoc can maintain their appointment without reduction. For those in a full-time capacity, the postdoc would resume full-time status after completing the teaching assignment, treated as a distinct paid position.

Potential research topics include characterization of novel disaggregates and their role in formation and maintenance of endogenous condensates that are important in animal development as well as the role of metabolism in aggregation-based disease. Our research offers a collaborative research environment including multiple model organisms (S. cerevisiae, C. elegans, tissue culture) and close interactions with clinical labs studying neurodegenerative disease in the Medical School.

  PhD in Biology or related discipline.

  
  

• Interest in protein aggregation, proteostasis, and neurodegenerative disease.


• Background in molecular biology, genetic, and biochemical approaches.


• Experience with epifluorescence and confocal microscopy.
